Who is Apashee?

Based out of Broomfield, CO, Apashee Art a.k.a Maxx W. Lake is an indigenous artist from the San Carlos Apache Tribe as well as the Navajo Nation. She works in multi-media and loves to be a “jack of all trades.” Her favorite media include pen and ink and digital contemporary art.

Her whole life, she has been engaged in her community, one of her earliest “community works” being advocating for the right to have chickens in her city and taking a hand-drawn picture of a chicken in front of the city council to appeal at the age of eight! Now she works as the Social Media & Promotions Manager for Aya Con and has done contracted artwork for Colorado Parks & Wildlife, Thunderwolf Native Arts & Culture, and many more. She’s also had artwork in the Denver Art Museum, Nobo Library, Dairy Arts Center, and more.

When she’s not working or just doing art for fun, she’s extremely committed to the outdoors, such as hiking the Colorado 14ers, exploring ghost towns, or camping across the West! Volunteering is extremely important to her as well, such as volunteering multiple times at the Denver Indian Center.
